Zip In Compatible
Many of our jackets and vests zip into each other to create a one-piece insulated outer layer. Simply look for the zip-in compatible icon.
Zip-in one of our fleece or insulated styles into one of our shell jackets to create a one-piece insulated outer layer - you pick the pieces to fit the conditions.
Compatible zipper lengths match up the outer shell with the insulating layer.
Jacket cuffs are secured together with a loop and snap closure system to prevent shifting and twisting.

We incorporated this technology by utilizing a polyurethane (PU) coating that consists of a tri-component multi-layer formula for waterproof protection, moisture permeability, and durability. This technology was lab tested in The North Face quality assurance lab to ensure the best possible durability and function. The average breathability achieved using HyVent™ is 650g/m2/24 hours on the Moisture Vapor Transfer Rate (MVTR) scale*. To test the level of waterproofness we subjected HyVent™ garments to 20 wash cycles* where on average they retained over 60 PSI on the waterproofing Mullens Test*.
It's important to note we do not rely solely on these figures: the final stamp of approval comes from the field, the only place to get an honest evaluation of what lab-tested technology can really do. "This technology keeps me out in the storms catching the best snow long after most people have gone inside," says skier and mountaineer, Rick Armstrong. "It's just as good-if not better-than anything else on the market." HyVent™ garments have been heavily field tested for over three years with outstanding proof of long-term performance. The North Face guarantees you cannot find a more waterproof/breathable technology anywhere for this price.
* MVTR testing per ASTM E96B Upright Cup Water Method.
* Wash Cycle-Machine wash warm (105°F) + detergent. Tumble dry low (145°F) for 40 minutes.
* Mullens testing per ASTM D751. U.S. Federal Standard 191A-55 requires a minimum of 25psi.
* These averages are based on the results of all Fall 2002 HyVent™ fabrics. Individual results will vary depending on the weight and construction of each face fabric.

UNIQUE MICROGRID “HALF-LAYER” LINING
HyVent™ DT is a waterproof, breathable 2.5-layer fabric with an interior, tactile microgrid print. The technically advanced construction of HyVent™ DT allows interior vapor molecules to escape through the fabric laminate while preventing outside water molecules from penetrating inward. This unique breathable fabric will keep you warm, dry and comfortable.
FOR HIGH-OUTPUT OUTDOOR SPORTS
HyVent™ DT is designed for high-output applications. The fabric’s weight, hand and performance characteristics are well suited for backpacking, fastpacking and trekking. Its light weight and excellent breathability make it perfect for spring and warm weather applications where conventional three-layer and two-layer constructions are too heavy.
TECHNOLOGY
What makes HyVent™ DT different is the interior microgrid print. Lighter in weight and more efficient than a liner or laminated inner layer, this treatment is so minimal that we refer to it as a half-layer. The microgrid half-layer physically separates the fabric’s waterproof barrier from the skin. This separation:
- Prevents the clammy feeling of coating on skin
- Increases air circulation and ventilation
- Helps channel moisture away from the skin so it can evaporate
- Allows the garment to move more freely over other layers
Hyvent™ DT OUTPERFORMS COMPETITORS' FABRICS
HyVent™ DT fabric's superior characteristics offer better performance and comfort than competing fabrics.
When compared with the leading competitor, The North Face Venture Jacket is:
•25% more breathable
•More comfortable (no contact with skin)
•More durably waterproof

PolarTec® 100 wt. Fleece
The North Face offers fleece garments in a range of weights, allowing you to select the piece that is right for both your activity level and the weather conditions you are in. To make it easier for you to layer our fleece garments, The North Face has developed a zip-in system where our outerwear jackets have a separate zipper inside, letting you join your outer jacket and fleece.
Below is an outline of the different types of fleece that The North Face offers to guide you in selecting the weight that is right for your outdoor adventures.

Our lightest fabric can be worn alone to take the chill out of a fall hike or as a mid-layer in any season.

This medium-weight fabric offers warmth in a range of conditions, making these garments very popular for layering or wearing alone in cooler weather.

Our most popular fabric, Polartec® 300 Series fabric offers exceptional warmth. It can be worn alone in cooler conditions or zipped into our shell jackets in extreme cold.
Northotic™ Footbed

Northotic™ Custom Footbed
The feet are the foundation of the body and require stability and support in order to maintain a strong and healthy body. The newly designed Northotic™ is a multi-density footbed that provides enhanced stability, support and cushioning on the trail.- Lateral and medial TPU heel cradle offers torsional stability, arch support and prohibits over-pronation.
- OrthoLite® polyurethane (PU) footbed. (A) Firmer PU under the ball and heel for cushioning and stability. (B) Softer top layer for a cushioned ride throughout.
- Longitudinal arch wedge prevents the foot from sliding forward, and supports the arch.

Gore-Tex® fabrics lead the industry in providing durably waterproof / breathable protection. The Gore-Tex® membrane is completely impervious to rain, sleet and snow, while allowing perspiration to pass through it. A single square inch of the Gore-Tex® membrane contains 9 billion microscopic pores - each pore is 20,000 times smaller than a raindrop but 700 times larger than a molecule of water vapor - so while water can't pass through the fabric, perspiration can.
The North Face uses Gore-Tex® fabric in shoes, not only because of its waterproof / breathable capabilities, but because it is rigorously tested for durability. Abrasion and flexing tests are done in laboratory conditions that exceed even the most extreme weather environments.
Perched on the cutting edge of technology, The North Face introduces Gore-Tex® XCR™ fabric, a revolution in breathable fabrics. Designed in conjunction with W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc., Gore-Tex® XCR™ fabric (extended comfort range) is durable, waterproof, windproof, and extremely breathable. The bottom line: unparalleled comfort. Gore-Tex® XCR™ fabric increases the breathability of your footwear without compromising waterproofness or adding weight.
The new X-2 O2™ air pod is ideal for the varied uses of the multisport athlete, the X-2 O2™ heel air pod provides an added measure of cushioning and protection for the athlete moving fast over rugged terrain.

The North Face™ exclusive Vibram® outsoles, each specially adapted to specific terrain and conditions, provide superlative traction and stability to suit the needs of the user.
